Solano College Theatre offers a rigorous, production-based training program, based on the regional theatre model. SCT presents a full season of plays and musicals on it's two stages, the 375 seat Campus Theatre and 175 seat Harbor Theatre. With a staff of seasoned professionals working side by side with students, Solano College Theatre allows all students to be nurtured in a positive aesthetic environment.
Career bound actors, technicians, and scholars build the skills they need over the two-year course of study to become a part of the burgeoning entertainment industry. Our pre-professional programs are founded on the simple principle of learning by doing.
Students seeking a solid grounding in theatre in order to transfer to a four-year college or university complete a rigorous program covering theatre history and literature, as well as performance and production fundamentals.
Performers balance time in the classroom with time on stage. They will focus on the tools of the actor—movement, voice, character development—even as they study and master the core types of theatrical performance (farce, tragedy, Shakespeare). Over the course of rehearsal and performances students will develop both the skills and the confidence to audition and be cast in live performances.
Tech students design and build scenery, hang and focus lights, operate sound systems and help create the costumes and makeup for Solano College Theatre’s season. As backstage crew, they learn to run shows smoothly and safely, skills which translate to jobs at the many performance venues in the Bay Area.
While all three tracks prepare students to enter the entertainment industry workforce, SCT is focused on helping students transfer to a California State University or University of California campus.
