Solano College Theatre Announces 2009/2010 Season!
Solano College Theatre, the most award-winning playhouse in the North Bay, is thrilled to announce a season of theatrical favorites. Our new season offers something for everyone, from favorite classics to the latest Broadway blockbusters. With reduced ticket and subscription prices, choose-your-own subscriber packages and a family-friendly season featuring both Solano College Theatre and Solano Youth Theatre talent, now is the perfect time to join SCT's growing family.
Kicking off the season is Shakespeare's classic battle of the sexes, Much Ado About Nothing, directed by SCT's own Carla Spindt. Perhaps Shakespeare's greatest comic characters, Beatrice and Benedick are seasoned veterans in the timeless war between the men and women. As young lovers moon and villains conspire, well, villainy, Beatrice and Benedick joyfully trade insults and disdain for each other and the whole notion of romantic love. Much Ado About Nothing is rated PG.
Next, SCT presents Mel Brooks' wildly funny Broadway sensation, The Producers, directed by Ken Sonkin with musical direction by Joseph Anderson and choreography by Lisa Clark-Schmeling. Once the king of Broadway, Max Bialystock is now its greatest failure. Leo Bloom is a lonely accountant who dreams of being a Broadway producer. Together, they hatch a scheme that can't fail. The Producers is the biggest Broadway hit in decades, inspiring a film version and those legendary $400 tickets. See it at Solano in all its hilarious glory for a fraction of those New York prices! The Producers is rated PG-13 for language and innuendo.
The New Year starts with the Tony Award winning Bye Bye Birdie, based on a possibly recognizable performer of the 50's. With hit songs like "A Lot of Livin' to Do" and "Put on a Happy Face," Bye Bye Birdie has been a perennial favorite for audiences of all ages. Featuring the amazing performers of Solano College Theatre's youth division together with adult leads, Birdie is the next step in the development of SCT. Rated G, Bye Bye Birdie is great fun for the entire family. Student leads will be featured in all matinee performances.
Thornton Wilder's Our Town, directed by SCT Artistic Director George Maguire, follows next. First produced and published in 1938, this Pulitzer Prize--winning drama of life in small town America quickly became an American classic. Focusing on the traditional values of morality, community, the family and appreciation of everyday pleasures, Our Town is rated G.
The 2009-2010 Season wraps up with Thoroughly Modern Millie, again featuring SCT's youth division. Millie Dillmount, a fearless young lady fresh from Salina, Kansas, is determined to experience life, so she sets out to see the world in the rip-roaring Twenties. With high spirits and wearing one of those new high hemlines, she arrives in New York to pursue her dream of becoming "thoroughly modern" and marrying for money instead of love. Thoroughly Modern Millie is rated G. Student leads will be featured in all matinee performances.
2009/2010 season subscriptions are now on sale. Theatregoers have the option of subscribing to any three or all five of the productions. Special senior, military, student and child subscription plans are also available.
Subscribers save approximately 25% off single-ticket prices while enjoying the benefits of preferred seating, ticket exchange, exclusive invitations to special events and much more. Subscription package prices range from just $30-$75. Single ticket prices range from $13-$20.
